'The Boys': A-Train just a fast human

By Muzi

The Boys universe can change a man...

Lets look at A-train from kinder eyes. Yes he isn't actually a 'superhero' but he's also just human. Besides Homelander is scary!!

The Boys, created by Eric Kripke, is a dark and satirical take on the superhero genre. One of its characters is A-Train, a speedster who is nothing like our favorite scarlet speedster.

A-Train, portrayed by Jessie T. Usher, is a member of The Seven, the world's premier superhero team. Despite being the fastest man alive, we get introduced to an insecure junkie who has a relentless pursuit to be relevant. But can you really blame him? I would say he was the only member of the Seven who had a somewhat common power. This meant low level supes such as Shockwave were always more than ready to take his position, one race is all it took. So it makes sense that our hero was pumping Compound V because it was either that or bye bye movie deals.

My Thoughts

A-Train's actions, including the accidental killing of Robin, paint him as both a victim and a perpetrator. Well, when I initially first saw that scene he was more of a perpetrator, but as time went on we realize he is just another Vought casualty. Throughout the series, A-Train grapples with his past mistakes and seeks redemption, particularly after the incident with Blue Hawk and his brother. But the universe had other plans for him, stick him with a racists heart.

A-Train's dynamic with other members of The Seven, particularly Homelander, highlights the toxic environment he had to endure, you almost feel sad for Season 1 A-Train.

Conclusion

A-Train in The Boys is more than just a fast human. His character explores the complexities of heroism, the consequences of addiction, and the struggle for redemption. Through A-Train, The Boys challenges viewers to reconsider what it means to be a hero in a world where power often corrupts.
